This Privacy Policy explains how Hurricane Polo (hurricanepolo.org) handles information when you use this independent Hurricane Polo tracking website.

The tracker is designed to display public storm information from the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and NOAA. You do not need an account or a precise location to view the tracker, map, forecast path, historical track, updates, or timeline.

Public storm data we process

The site retrieves public environmental data from NHC and NOAA services. Depending on the source update, this may include:

  • storm name, storm identifier, basin, classification, category, position, movement, maximum wind, and pressure
  • NHC advisory numbers and source update times
  • historical track points and official forecast points
  • NOAA/NHC forecast track and forecast cone GeoJSON geometry
  • links to the current-storm feed, NOAA GIS service, and official advisory

This is storm and geographic data about the weather system, not information submitted by you. The site may save complete source snapshots, including the fields above, advisory metadata, source timestamps, and fetch timestamps in the hurricane_polo_snapshots table hosted by Supabase. Snapshots help the tracker show the latest verified data and build an advisory history when new official updates arrive.

Information about your visit

When you visit the site, the hosting, security, or analytics providers may process technical information such as your IP address, browser and device type, language, referring page, approximate region, request time, pages viewed, and basic performance or security events. We do not use the current Hurricane Polo tracker to request or store precise GPS location data.

The tracker itself does not require you to submit your name, email address, phone number, or personal location. If a separate feature later asks for information, the request should explain why that information is needed at the point of collection.

Cookies, analytics, and similar technologies

Depending on the deployment configuration, the site may use cookies, local storage, pixels, or similar technologies for:

  • maintaining language, theme, security, and basic site preferences
  • measuring page visits and navigation through Yandex Metrica, Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity, or another enabled analytics provider
  • understanding performance, diagnosing errors, preventing abuse, and improving the tracker

The current deployment can use Yandex Metrica page-view measurement and, when enabled, features such as session replay, click maps, and link tracking. Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity are only loaded when their deployment settings and identifiers are enabled. These providers may process information under their own privacy policies. You can manage or block cookies and similar technologies through your browser settings, although some site features may be affected.

The site relies on or links to third-party services, which may process information under their own policies:

  • NHC and NOAA provide public storm feeds, advisories, and GIS geometry
  • Supabase provides database storage for server-side Hurricane Polo snapshots when configured
  • Vercel provides hosting and may process request, security, and operational logs
  • OpenStreetMap contributors provide map attribution and geographic base-map services where used
  • enabled analytics providers provide traffic and product analytics

We do not control the privacy practices of these providers. Review their policies before using an external service or following an external link.

Sharing and retention

We do not sell personal information. We may share or permit access to information with service providers that operate hosting, storage, security, analytics, or site infrastructure, or when disclosure is required by law or needed to protect the site, users, or public safety.

Public storm snapshots may be retained for the operational history of the tracker. Technical logs and analytics data are retained by the relevant provider according to its configuration and policy. We retain support messages or other voluntarily submitted information only as reasonably necessary to respond, maintain security, comply with legal obligations, or operate the site.

Children

This site is not directed to children below the age at which they can provide valid consent under applicable law. Do not submit personal information through support channels if you are not permitted to do so. If you believe a child provided personal information without appropriate permission, contact us so we can review the request.

Your rights

Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to certain processing, obtain a copy of information, or withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. Changes to this policy
